Mission
Friends of Brown Street Park's mission is to create a sustainable space that fosters a sense of community.
Core Values
The mission and programs of Brown Street Park are supported by a focus on the following:
- Sustainability
- Arts and health programming for all ages
- Open space and natural play
A group of neighbors came together to revitalize the park space in August of 2006. With the support of local city councilman, Cliff Wood, Friends of Brown Street Park has been working with the Parks Department and the community to improve the park. In April 2007, Friends of Brown Street Park became a 501C(3) non-profit organization.

“This is what peace looks like”
"It’s like a vitamin!”
“In the city, we have a chance to create wilderness in our public parks. We are trying to create a natural environment for play …expanses of green punctuated by small gardens and stones for jumping off …movable elements like cedar stumps which the kids roll all over and giant tires which become towers and fortresses… Children run in little packs, creating alliances and exploring with their minds and bodies, play that is so much more interesting than playgrounds where a mammoth piece of equipment dominates the landscape.
