FBSP Halloween event with What Cheer? Brigade

4th Annual "Fiends" of Brown Street Park
Halloween Celebration and Parade with What Cheer? Brigade
    Sunday, October 31st 4:00-5:30

We need a few more devilish donations for this free family-friendly, community-organized event (FBSP is a non-profit 501C3 organization. All donations are tax deductible. Email Wendy at wnilsson@cox.net for details).

4th Annual "Fiends" of Brown Street Park Halloween Celebration and Parade

Like a pillowcase bursting with treats, you'll want your Halloween to overflow with fun. So don't wait until "Twilight" to go out, join us early at the "Fiends" of Brown Street Park Halloween Party and Parade from 4p - 5:30p, Sunday October 31st. Dress your family in halos and horns, capes and crinolines, and kick off the evening right with games, crafts and healthy, fortifying foods from Whole Foods Market University Heights and other generous sponsors. At 5p, the party then transforms into a rollicking, rousing parade as Providence's legendary What Cheer? Brigade marching band leads the revelers through neighborhood streets. We guarantee you'll be in the Halloween spirit by the time you leave.

We look forward to seeing you -- rain, shine, or eerie, blanketing fog.

[In the event of heavy, sustained rain, please check website, www.friendsofbrownstreetpark.org for updates.]

About The Wippets: Voted "Best Roots Act" in the Providence Phoenix, 2009 and Nominated as "Best Folk Act" by Motif Magazine, 2009 The Wippets formed in 2002. It’s hard to define exactly what type of music we play. We're a little bit jug band without the jug, a little bit skiffle band, a high energy trio doing originals and covers of both the familiar and the obscure. We play at outdoor fairs, private parties, local clubs and coffeehouses…anywhere there are people who want to have a good time.

A nice note on Natural Play Spaces & Brown Street Park

    From: Miriam G. [mailto:m____@verizon.net]
    Sent: Monday, June 14, 2010 12:45 PM
    To: wendy@friendsofbrownstreetpark.org
Subject: Natural Play Spaces at Brown Street Park

    Wendy,

I was on the website today and notice the blog about natural play spaces for children. it reminded me of an article I read in the Arbor Day foundations newsletter about natural play spaces for children. I will scan it and send ti to you but in the mean time, here is their website-

    http://www.arborday.org/explore/

I am sending this to you because I am thrilled with all of the work you have done at BSP. Although my kids and I don't get there often we always have a great time when we are there. In light of redesigning the older and younger children's play spaces, I thought this article and the Arbor Day's information about natural play spaces might be interesting and helpful.

Here's what they had to say

      "Brown Street Park & Playground
Location: behind Hope High School, East Side, Providence, RI
Parking: Street parking. Make sure to check the signs on where to park to avoid a ticket.
This park (a continuous work in progress) has been designed and built by a dedicated group of parents, neighbors and partners as a place that is both useful and beautiful. Although well used and nestled between Hope High School and residential streets this park private and cozy."

We will also have friends from Groundworks Providence to share information and how to purchase trees. We will also be planting trees on this day! Other special guests include the Worm Ladies of Charlestown and other earth friendly folks.

      Community Garden

We are working with the City of Providence to open the organic Community Garden in the Northeast corner of the park this Spring! There is a sliding fee for an annual plot (the highest fee being $52). Let Eamon Brown know if you are interested in volunteering to build the supports for the garden beds (Communitygarden@friendsofbrownstreetpark.org).
