June FBSP Fitness Update, Tuesday 6/15 Specials at the Park

Sample special classes for the entire family, Tuesday, June 15 at 3:30. Also, new Fitness schedule posted! Join us on Tuesday, June 15 at 3:30 for some free fitness activities for the whole family. There will be yoga for kids, Ball play with our friends from CVS, and sample Hybrid fitness classes by the East Side/Mt Hope YMCA for adults and teens, and ring demos by Crossfit. On Tuesday, 6/15 at 3:30 PM there will be a special OM Kids yoga class at Brown Street Park for children between the ages of 3 and 6. Come play yoga in this fun and imaginative class where simple yoga poses will be combined with engaging songs and stories that exercise social, sensory and motor skills while increasing flexibility and focus. Kids should bring a mat or towel if possible. Elyse Rotondo, mom and founder of OM Kids - a yoga studio for children which will be opening in Pawtucket this Fall -will be leading the class. Elyse will be offering free yoga classes for kids this summer at the Brown Street Park starting on June 22. Yoga Pretzels for 3-4 year olds will be Tuesday mornings at 10AM and Yoga Warriors for 4-6 year olds will be offered on Wednesday afternoons at 2PM.

Tuesdays 5:30-6:30 CrossFit Bootcamp - first class is free, subsequent classes are $8/ea and individuals must sign-up for a session. Contact Mike for more information.

Summer Schedule, starting June 21

Mondays 5:30-6:30 PM East Side/Mt. Hope YMCA Free Hybrid Training Class with free child care

Tuesdays 10 AM OM Kids yoga for 3-4 year olds (Yoga Pretzels) -kids should bring a mat and eye pillow or small towel if possible

Tuesdays 4:30-5:30 PM and 5:30-6:30 PM Crossfit Providence Boot Camp. Contact Mike for information on cost and session duration.

Wednesdays 9:15-10:15 AM East Side/Mt. Hope YMCA Free Hybrid Training Class with free child care

Starting July 1: YMCA Family Yoga for parents and children on Thursday mornings 9:15-10:00 AM Starting July 7: Free Adult Yoga with Kyle on Wednesday mornings 7:30 -8:30 AM. Please register prior to class.

Class Descriptions

Hybrid Training: Hybrid Training by the East Side YMCA at Brown Street Park is an outdoor fitness program designed to increase strength, endurance, and coordination through the use of the Park's natural and human made elements, body weight exercises, and cross training. Learn how to use pull up bars, parallel bars, benches, rings and gravity to your advantage. Basic to Intense calisthenics challenge your body to increased functional fitness. Enjoy fresh air and community while sculpting and conditioning in the sunshine. Recommended for ages 15 and up. All levels of fitness are suitable, however, be aware that the circuit requires stamina and you will sweat. Bring plenty of water, a sweat towel, and if possible, an exercise mat. And of course, a big smile and motivation to take your fitness to a higher level. Instructor: Catherine (Cat) Sutton

Yoga Pretzels for 3-4 year olds - Come play yoga in this fun and imaginative series where we combine simple yoga poses with engaging songs and stories that exercises social, sensory and motor skills while increasing flexibility. Instructor: Elyse Rotondo

Young Warriors for 4-6 year olds - A playful class that encourages self-expression and builds social skills. Children will strengthen their bodies as they learn how to focus their minds through breathing and relaxation skills. Kids will sing, participate in group games and play yoga in this energy releasing class. Instructor: Elyse Rotondo

Facilities

Brown Street Park boasts one of the three outdoor travelling ring sets, nationwide. Additional equipment for adults includes olympic rings, parallel bars, chin up bars, climbing ropes and nets. Please visit www.swingaring.com for more information on the use of the travelling and olympic ring sets.

Brown Street Park sits next the Hope High School Athletic Complex. The outdoor track is home to the nationally recognized Providence Cobras Track & Field Club (current home to two of the fastest HS age runners in Rhode Island). Their youth program is open to those age 8 to 18. Click here for more info. The Athletic Complex also includes 8 tennis courts, 2 baseball diamonds and two playing fields. The public is welcome to use the Hope High Athletic Complex during the Summer and during non-school and non-event times.
