2008 October Happenings


Brown Street Park October Happenings
  • Thursday Fun Days continue at Brown Street Park through October 4:00-5:00. 

o        Thursday October 2-  Kickball

o        Thursday October 9- Fairy Houses (from found elements)

o        Thursday October16-Tag

o        Thursday October 23- Hop Scotch 

  • Saturday October 11th RISD Bench Install. Let us know if you would like to volunteer. Time TBD

  • Friday October 17 from 12-2 La Leche League of Providence (breastfeeding resource and support for moms) will be holding its monthly meeting at Brown Street Park. In case of cold weather (below 60) or rain, meeting will take place at Rochambeau Library.

  • Sunday October 19th from 3-5:00 Fall Clean up. Volunteers needed to spread mulch, lay the stones for the children’s gardenprune and prep the park for winter, fix benches and remove paint from fitness equipment,  E mail wendy at wnilsson@cox.net

  • Friday October 31st Spooky park fun….Halloween Party at Brown Street Park 4:00-5:30 Lots of games, crafts, food, music, trick or treat parade, and fun. Best for kids 11 and under, but all welcome.  There are still opportunities to donate and volunteer. Email brenda@friendsofbrownstreetpark.org

Earth Day Celebration - Sat. April 19

FBSP and Whole Foods are co-sponsoring an Earth Day celebration at Brown Street Park on Saturday, April 19th!If you are a serious green thumb or green thumb wannabe, please contact Meg Wirth to pledge your skills in order to upkeep our emerging gardens.Bring tools and kids to dig, plant, prune, rake, prep, mulch, meet neighbors and have fun!If you would like to donate any perennials or plants, this is the day!!

We got another grant!

We are very happy to have received a Neighborhood Performing Arts Initiative grant from the City of Providence, Mayor David N. Cicilline, the Department of Art, Culture & Tourism, and the Department of Public Parks. Friends of Brown Street Park will host four music events with a healthy twist this summer for everyone in the community to enjoy. Look for our website for details in the coming month. RISD Sculptures coming to the Park

We are very pleased to have been selected by the Parks Department to partner with the RISD Architectural Department on a spring project to be incorporated into the Brown Street Park grounds.Six architectural on-site installations that can be used by children will be constructed and will remain within the park for a limited time.These structures will reflect the integrity of the neighborhood and park space and continue to work well within the focus of FBSP to promote creative play and spark imagination for children of all ages.
